A Love Letter to…

Dear Monday, you were ushered in before the sun rose. Bring it on..¬†I’m so thankful for a day job!

Dear Husband, YOU ROCK. Without you, I wouldn’t have been able to wake up so early. Without you, I wouldn’t have had coffee & breakfast awaiting me. Without you, I wouldn’t know silly and beautiful and¬†selfless¬†love the way that I do. I am so glad that I will never have to be without you!

Dear Summer, you were good to me while you lasted. But I think it’s time you leave. I’ve had my beach time and I’m ready to break out the bad boys– my knee-high boots. Yes. And I’m gonna need some room for a pumpkin spice latte. Love ya, summer, but I gotta let you go…

Dear said Pumpkin Spice Latte, I need you like I need oxygen. My husband and I are going to meet you on top of Rock City next week.. Let’s make it a date, shall we?

Dear Fear, you may have had me backed up in a corner last week but this week and beyond, I’m sending you straight to my Dad and that’s God so you better watch out. Because perfect Love casts out fear. See ya never.

Dear Recently Purchased Jet Ski, thank you for being awesome. You are an¬†awesome after-work-de-stresser.¬†That’s all.

Dear Penny, I’m sorry my new job is going to mess up our morning routine but I promise to take you to the park whenever I can {aka whenever I have enough energy} One day you will have a puppy sibling to play with! Until then, I’ll tell your dad to give you double the jerky treats when he leaves.

Dear Jesus, You are my strength… and You keep proving that to me over & over again even when it hurts. But it’s amazing how You do that… How you draw me into Your unexplainable presence in times where it seems like you are slaying me. You are good. You are holy. You are so worth all the pain that carrying my cross brings. Because You, God, You saw me worthy.

Love, Katie

I want to hear how you are doing… So what are you waiting for?! Let’s be friends.

Wifey Wear Wednesday // Weekending

Friends! I love that you are here visiting Hot Tea and the Empty Seat. It means so much!

I hope that you are having a delightful week so far! I want to share with you all what I wore this weekend. It was a special occasion to kick off the weekend… our One Year anniversary photo session! I absolutely love being friends with a fellow photographer. A couple of months ago, I shot her and her husband’s Four Year anniversary pictures downtown and it was such a blast. In return, she shot photos of my husband and I for our anniversary. After the sessions, we always have a blast hanging together. How fun! Friday and Saturday, we traveled to visit our families. I have been on a country music kick for some reason {I blame FGL’s new hit} so I decided to¬†try a fun outfit and rock my overalls.¬† I hope you can snag a few fun ideas from my recent outfits!

IMG_41451My husband¬†picked out this perfect dress for me a little boutique in a Georgia mall called Edge by KS. The¬†store was full of $20-$30 good quality dresses.¬†I was so excited¬†to¬†buy this one specially for our anniversary pictures. It’s coral, white, and navy blue. The perfect color combo.

IMG_4148I paired it with my 90 inch long pearls bought at premier jewelry. The thin wait belt was bought with the dress. The fit was perfect!

IMG_4136I wore my most favorite wedges. I am a total wedge fan. I would choose them over high heels or flats any day. They are comfy, easy to walk in, & in my opinion, never go out of style. These coral wedges are from Agaci.

IMG_41891A couple¬†of months ago, I was in the business for a pair of overalls shorts. I used to own a pair when I was¬†younger and¬†thankfully they are in style again so you can find them at almost any¬†store in the mall. I actually found these at Aeropostale. I found a couple of pairs at other stores but those were either too short or too bedazzled. These were a good length and fit like a glove. I don’t wear these every week but they are¬†fun to¬†wear to picnics or family gatherings. I paired it with a neon pink tank top that I actually¬†bought for $4 in the kids section at Wal-Mart {no shame in my game}. The necklace¬†you have¬†seen before because it is¬†my all-time fave from Forever21. And¬†lastly, my glasses are Vera Bradley and I have had them for years.¬†¬†If you are looking, I would absolutely recommend them. They are dark brown and have a teal and brown design on the sides. I have dropped them, sat on them, worn them in the ocean, and almost anything else and they haven’t scratched once or broken. And it has been years. Love that!

I hope you have enjoyed a few of my recent outfits! Now I have to ask. Would you ever considering wearing overalls?! I would love to know. You either love ’em or you hate ’em. I am a fan ūüôā Blessings, friends! See you tomorrow with the review of Romans 11! If you haven’t read the review of 10 yet, check it out here!

Friday Faves // vol. 2

How has it been a month since I have posted my Friday Faves?! I am excited to give a little sneak peek into a few of my favorite things on everyone’s favorite day… FRIDAY! I hope you all have a relaxing and fun-filled weekend ahead!

1. organic rice cakes, super YUM!

I have eaten this bad boy every morning for at least two weeks. Top it with a spoonful of natural peanut butter with nuts (my fave), an egg, or even avocado for a delicious and surprisingly filling breakfast food! Let your imagination run wild on top of this healthy thang. I buy my organic rice cakes at our local Earth Fare. Give it a try!

2. unleash the nerd…

This website was created by the author who posts updated tales straight from “Reeta Skeeter” herself.
>activate nerd side now<
Yes, we love Harry Potter. My husband and I love watching Harry Potter together. I think they’re just so fun and makes me feel like a kid again. I was never allowed to watch these as a kid since my parents jumped on the “no Harry Potter allowed in Christian homes” bandwagon. I plan on letting my kids enjoy a little Harry if they so wish.¬†My opinion: Remind them that all things Harry Potter is make-believe & move on. Easy-peasy. As long as they are old enough to know the difference between truth & fantasy. What are your thoughts? I’m curious!

3. it’s time for a new devotion!

Since my Beth Moore Prayer Journal is now filled to the brim, it’s time to start a new devotional! Although this is more of a read than a daily devo, I plan on reading a few paragraphs and really dig into what the author is teaching. It’s about being intentional in your time with Jesus and not letting this busy life get to¬†you.¬†This book was left in my mailbox by a sweet & dear friend, Jessica. She absolutely loved it & I am so excited to get started! If you haven’t read the encounter of these two sisters & Jesus, check out Luke 10:38-42!

4.  work it, girl!

Our ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY BEACH TRIP is approaching us quicker than I would like! My hubs and I joined¬†an awesome gym in a local church & have been watching more closely¬†what we eat! Our health & fitness has been a priority that we are finally seeing through. We fail a lot (we love our chocolate cupcakes) but like God’s grace,¬†everyday is fresh & NEW!¬†My bffs have become spinach salad with a handful of cashews & a drizzle of organic dressing,¬†homemade coffee¬†creamer,¬†all kinds of fish, freezer smoothies & lots of water! Recipes & work out plans are in the works¬†for the blog soon!!! ¬†¬†

5. faithful friendships are my fave!

20140711-134526-49526799.jpgMy sweet friend, Jaimie, sent this to me this morning with the caption, “praying for you!” It’s the little things, friends! I am so thankful for friendships based on God, true care for the other person,¬†& encouragement. Listen, God is glorified when you and I carry the burdens of the people in our lives. That’s¬†what we are called to do!¬†That little encouragement¬†was just what I needed! Oh, and¬†Jaimie is also a super-new blogger with a website I am sure you will be hearing about in my upcoming posts! Let’s focus on people rather than our blog’s fame. Friends over Facebook. Family over our own little personal bubble. Let’s¬†live life with one another. That glorifies God.

Friday Faves //

Y’all, it’s FRIDAY. This weekend is SO special. Some of my family & Joe’s family will be coming down this weekend & staying with us. Yipee! We are celebrating Joe’s Birthday and also celebrating Father’s Day with his dad & my stepdad. Next weekend, I will be hiking with my dad. Happy Dad’s Day! It’s pretty sweet that I have so many dads. I have a dad, stepdad, dad-in-law, & sorry y’all but my heavenly Dad trumps them all. I’m so thankful for each of them! We are also celebrating my Sweet Husband this Saturday! His birthday is next Wednesday & we’re celebrating with family this weekend. It was a surprise but because it’s kinda complicated to plan an entire weekend with 20+ people alone, I decided to tell him! Thankfully, he was excited to know. But.. I have a special secret surprise day planned on his actual birthday & I am not letting this cat out of the bag!

In honor of such a fun weekend just beginning, I want to share my faves from this week!

1. 20140613-082923.jpgEarth Fare’s chocolate cupcake. Okay-confession-… my husband and I may or may not have traveled to earth fare 3-4 times this week to get their amazingly delish chocolate cupcakes and we may or may not have endured a flash flood/thunderstorm to get said cupcake from said grocery store. Okay, we did. We use the excuse that everything in their cupcakes are healthier than the normal¬†preservative-packed cupcake. Whatevs if they’re still filled with sugar & calories. WE LOVE THEM.

We have a flower!!! I have been waiting on¬†and watering this little guy for months now. Each morning, I give him a little drink & wait for him to sprout in the sunlight on our kitchen windowsill. One morning, my husband woke me up to let me know that we had a sunflower! It was sweet. This is our first plant we grew together in our home. It reminds me of the quote, “bloom where you are planted”. It’s so easy to wish your life away. Wish you lived somewhere else, doing something better, in a happier place. But really, if we are just patient and trust God, we will blossom & grow right where we are! And we can find happiness & peace where we are at because we trust that God, the sower of every seed, placed us in the perfect spot. And His Son is all we need to flourish and grow! {the little tiny pot beside the sunflower is our strawberry plant. It was only $1 at target, okay. ūüėČ we may never see actual strawberries but it’s still fun to watch it¬†grow!}

My hubs & I decided we were going to TRY to eat better. {I say this after I told you about the cupcakes.. keyword TRY hehe} I have been making my very own smoothies to drink for breakfast, as a snack, or a lunch substitute. I also add a handful of kale and/or spinach to eat drink so I know I am getting all the nutrients I need. I normally add coconut water for the liquid + tons of fruits. Yesterday, I added cranberry juice (no sugar added) to see if I enjoyed it better than coconut water. Eh, I think I will stick with my coconut water. I don’t have set recipes for each drink. I like to keep it simple though. My staples for each drink is one big kale leaf (stem removed), a handful of spinach, 2 fruits, & a liquid (natural coconut water). LOVE THEM! My fave has to be my kale apple drink. Granny smith for the win!

No one ever told me how hard it is to get your house in perfect shape. I thought it would just kinda happen & I would never be one of those people who keep everything. Well, life surely happens. It has taken us almost a year to get our guest room just how we like it. And wouldn’t you know, it took less than 2 hours. Surprise, surprise. All I needed was a little company-the hubs, motivation-family staying over in less than a day with nowhere to lay their heads, & a vacuum-which we had all along. I hope¬†I’m not the only one to¬†procrastinate in¬†the¬†house. Right?!¬†We decorated our guest room in a beach-y theme. We already had the nightstand and the lamp from Joe’s old apartment. (Win!)¬†We added shelving to the walls that I found in a closet & topped them with seashells from our last beach trip. I went around the house looking for things I could add to the room instead of going out and buying everything. Add a candle (Christmas gift), a cute frame (from our wedding), ¬†& a bible (extra we¬†already had)¬†& you have yourself a cozy guest bedroom!

Yesterday, I visited my friendly neighborhood sbux for a little r&r. Oh, and I wrote the Romans chapter 2 review here! Which you need to check out if you haven’t already! The nice little cashier dude gave me a half-off venti cool lime refresher because he said he added something “special“…¬†still not sure what that means but I haven’t turned green yet, so I think I’m in the clear. It was a blessing! I love me a cool lime refresher! I also started the #100happydays challenge. You can find it here. It’s a challenge to be happy for 100 days. It’s free & fun. I just love a good photo challenge every now and then. You can check out my #100happydays on Hot Tea and the Empty Seat’s Facebook page! This pic was my day #1. ūüôā HAPPY!

how has your week been?

diving into the Word & the weekend

We began chapter TWO of our Roman’s study yesterday after finishing the Chapter One Review here. If you have read Romans 2 this morning already, you will find that it can be a little confusing. Many questions linger and confusion is easily found if you merely read then shut your bible and go about your day. Chapter two is going to need some deeper prayer and studying. I plan on reading and praying over Romans 2 often. Paul talks plenty about judgment, righteousness, and morals. I encourage you to find a trustworthy commentary (I use the HCSB Study Bible) or a trustworthy pastor or teacher who can guide you along. I will do my best next Thursday to put into easy understanding all that Paul discusses in chapter two! I am praying that we will be doers of the Word not merely hearers, only deceiving ourselves.

In just a few hours, I will be leaving with my church’s youth group to journey to CAMP! I will be leading high school girls! I am excited, already tired thinking about all the fun games there will be, & expecting God to work mightily and in big ways this weekend. You will hear from me around Monday. I am excited to share with you all that God revealed and even taught me while at camp. It will be a great and much-needed time detached from social media, busy schedules, and the never-ending piles of laundry. Please be praying specifically for the youth that are attending who do not know Jesus as their Savior. Pray for their hearts to be open to receive Christ & for their lives to be changed! Camp holds a special place in my heart because as a junior in high school, camp is the place where God completely and utterly saved, changed, & transformed me. I came to camp as confused, messed up, worldly, & self-centered and I left whole, clean, changed, & new!

God will do great things!

I want to encourage you this morning with this quote from a past blog post, Dive In ,that I wrote in January.

‚ÄúDrink from His vast ocean of faithfulness. Dive in, head-first, and drown in His grace. Find the great treasure of salvation, joy, and comfort. Float weightless in His Presence of Freedom, no guilt! Be refreshed in the waters of His LOVE. Receive His gift.‚ÄĚ
