Wednesday’s Words {Intro to Me!}

 WednesdaysWords150x150button_zps991a7c7f

Hey Y’all! I’m so glad that you stopped by. I’m currently sitting on my back porch with a bowl of cotton candy ice cream while my favorite pup is underneath me with her own bowl of peanut butter. It’s a good day. I’m so excited to start this new link up with Jenni from Frankly My Dear & other sweet blogging girls for a good dose of encouragement and community! It’s a brand new community starting TODAY & it’s the perfect replacement for my Wifey Wear Wednesdays I believe!

This week, we were asked to share a little about ourselves & what God is doing in our lives! So, let’s do this.

I’m Katie. I have a huge love for Jesus, my Savior & BFF, and I daily strive to life my life for Him in all aspects.  A year ago, I was overly blessed and full of JOY to marry the man of my dreams. His name is Joe and he is utterly perfect for me. I still pinch myself at times to make sure this isn’t all a dream. He is romantic, tall and handsome, and takes me on trips all over this green earth. We are super-duper in love and you would quickly learn that if ever you were around us for at least two minutes. He is the most selfless, wise, hilarious, caring, & faithful man I know. He is my joy. We live in a cute house in a fun city and we serve at our local church home & eat way too much good food. Oh, and we also have a Siberian Husky whom we adore & call our child.

I have a slightly obsessive love for hot tea, coffee, sunshine, Mexican food, spending time early in the morning in the Word, laughing, & reading books. I love Jesus, my big family, & my friends who are as dear as family. I just accepted a job as a nanny during the week after being a SAHW for the first year of our marriage. One day I will write about all the things that I learned from that season of life. I also adore this blog space. The community that it possesses is irreplaceable. I am in the process of growing my blog and I just love meeting new ladies who love Jesus & adore coffee as much as I do. It’s such an awesome thing. I started this blog almost two years ago while sitting in my formerly favorite coffee shop back in my hometown. I have a huge heart and passion with sharing Jesus’ love with everyone I meet. With that passion for Him and a passion to write since I was young, God led me to start this blog over a hot cup of African Sunset Red Tea. He knows the way to my heart. You can read way more in-depth of what and how He spoke to me about this blog here.

God has been showing me what it looks like to truly follow and live completely for Him. Honestly, I am growing {being stretched} more right now than I ever have in my walk with Christ. He is teaching my husband and I what it looks like to truly die to self and live for Christ even when it’s hard and complicated. I am slowly learning that He is worth it. In my personal life, God is teaching me to open my hands and let Him have the control, the insecurity, and the fear that I have been clinging onto for years and years. He is teaching me that opening my hands means that I am trusting Him for who He is.. GOD. I can’t play God anymore by trying to be in complete control over my life and the people in it. Trust, faith, believing. Surrender. That’s what I’m learning.

Oh, and did I mention that I love chatting with you so let me know that you stopped by! See ya tomorrow dearies for our Romans Summer Bible Study! We’re going over chapter 14.. here’s a sneak peek.. freedom & love!.. you know it will be good!

You are loved!

Katie

A Love Letter to…

$#@@@

Dear Monday, you were ushered in before the sun rose. Bring it on.. I’m so thankful for a day job!

Dear Husband, YOU ROCK. Without you, I wouldn’t have been able to wake up so early. Without you, I wouldn’t have had coffee & breakfast awaiting me. Without you, I wouldn’t know silly and beautiful and selfless love the way that I do. I am so glad that I will never have to be without you!

Dear Summer, you were good to me while you lasted. But I think it’s time you leave. I’ve had my beach time and I’m ready to break out the bad boys– my knee-high boots. Yes. And I’m gonna need some room for a pumpkin spice latte. Love ya, summer, but I gotta let you go…

Dear said Pumpkin Spice Latte, I need you like I need oxygen. My husband and I are going to meet you on top of Rock City next week.. Let’s make it a date, shall we?

Dear Fear, you may have had me backed up in a corner last week but this week and beyond, I’m sending you straight to my Dad and that’s God so you better watch out. Because perfect Love casts out fear. See ya never.

Dear Recently Purchased Jet Ski, thank you for being awesome. You are an awesome after-work-de-stresser. That’s all.

Dear Penny, I’m sorry my new job is going to mess up our morning routine but I promise to take you to the park whenever I can {aka whenever I have enough energy} One day you will have a puppy sibling to play with! Until then, I’ll tell your dad to give you double the jerky treats when he leaves.

Dear Jesus, You are my strength… and You keep proving that to me over & over again even when it hurts. But it’s amazing how You do that… How you draw me into Your unexplainable presence in times where it seems like you are slaying me. You are good. You are holy. You are so worth all the pain that carrying my cross brings. Because You, God, You saw me worthy.

Love, Katie

I want to hear how you are doing… So what are you waiting for?! Let’s be friends.

Summer Bible Study: Romans // Ch. 13

HEY! I’m so glad that you are back! I can’t wait to dig into scripture with you. If you have never joined us before, we are on chapter 13 of our Romans summer bible study. There are only a few more chapters left but it isn’t too late to hang out with us today! If you missed Romans 12, you can check it out here! This journey through Romans has grown me to love being in His Word. It’s such a comforting joy to relish in His truth. I pray that you & I would have a greater desire to study and truly live out what we learn from Him in His Word. Let’s jump right in!!

Romans 13: 1-7

What is this passage saying?

Paul is instructing his readers to submit to authority. Although Paul seems to focus more on the government side of the authority, we can apply his words to any authority we may have in our lives. I remember when I was a teenager {Lord, help us all} and like any 14-year-old, I didn’t have much respect for my parents, much less any other higher-ups. Without getting into all of the stories of doorslamming, yelling, and eye-rolling… I did not have the attitude of submission. Most people don’t. And that’s exactly why God places that word, submission, all throughout scripture. In God’s eyes, when we submit to our parents, our boss, our teachers, or any other “authority figure” in our lives, we are really submitting to God. When government seems crooked, our boss is a jerk, or our teachers & parents are unfair, we are called to respond in a respectful and loving way.

How can I practically apply this truth in my life?

Let’s ask God for His perspective on this subject. As hard as it is, this glorifies God. There is no higher than God and we can rest in that fact. God Himself has appointed the rulers in this world for His reasons. His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. {Isaiah 558-9} We can trust that God is the only One to judge and He is in control of all things and people, including authority.

Romans 13:8-10

What is this passage saying?

Paul goes on to speak about LOVE. At the end of verse 7, Paul tells us that if we owe someone something, we ought to pay them back no matter if it is taxes or honor. He then goes on to say something amazing. “Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another” We are called to love one another above all other things. Respect, submission, honor… all of those things stem from the love that we should have for one another.

How can I practically apply this truth in my life?

Before we can truly love anyone, we must know God. Did you know that?! Those aren’t just my words, either. God Himself speaks through John and tells us this in 1 John chapter 4:

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.  Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.  Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.”

Loving others is what God has called us to do. Period. How are you loving others? How are you loving your spouse, your children, your family, your friends, your coworkers, your actual neighbors, and even complete strangers?

Loving someone means putting their needs above your own.

Love is knowing God, experiencing His love, & sharing His love with others.

How are you loving?

Romans 13:11-14

What is this passage saying?

I picture Paul getting really excited while He is talking about love and how love is the fulfillment of all the commands from God. Then, He starts to quiet down and starts to talk s-l-o-w-l-y because He REALLY wants us to hear these next few lines. Picture a tall dude named Paul standing in front of you and a crowd of people. You know that His Words are actually God-breathed and then He says this…

“And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. 12 The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.

…and all is quiet before he screams…

WAKE UP!

Wake up. Friend, fellow sibling in the faith, we are almost out of time. This life we are living in simply a vapor. We are here today and gone tomorrow. Are we aimlessly going through life, like we are halfway sleeping? Eat. Sleep. Work. Play. Repeat. We do not have time for simply this! God put us on this earth and called us His own not so we could indulge in our desires, sinful & fleshly. No. He created us for ONE PURPOSE: to glorify Him. We already learned that by loving others, we can glorify Him. Another way? By putting aside, throwing off, the deeds of darkness (sinful things) and putting on the armor of LIGHT.

It’s time we stop flirting with sin. It’s time to destroy it. To shine His light ALL OVER this world & it’s darkness.

Paul lays it out for us pretty clear:

“Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh

This is radical, my friend. Because all of those fans of Jesus think it’s perfectly fine to be wallowing in their sexual immorality and jealousy and drunkenness and straight up sin. God has given you one purpose, and that purpose has nothing to do with your own self. It’s all about our lives and our will being handed over, being traded with God’s…. with love, selflessness, with joy unspeakable, hope, with JESUS.

How can I practically apply these truths to my life?

Spend time with God. Pray to Him, talk to Him, listen for Him. Sing to Him, cry out to Him, whisper to Him. Ask Him questions.

All of this is done in vain if we do not know Him. Loving others is impossible without knowing God’s love. The ability to put our sin to death is impossible without Jesus’ blood covering it.

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.  Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.  Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.  Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.” Those verses from James 4 changed my life forever. God spoke those words to me when I was a rebellious 18-year-old searching for purpose when my world was falling apart. He spoke truth, conviction, and hope into my soul that night. I haven’t been the same since. He can change you too. Be willing. And be ready to have your world turned upside down. When He speaks to the dead, life & beauty rises. He has a purpose for you. Glorify Him. He is worth it.

True Beauty {Community Brew}

community-brew-post

Today I am linking up with Madison & Rachel for volume 3 of Community Brew! This post was inspired by a fellow blogger and is straight from my heart. It is something that I have struggled with for years. I hope that you will be encouraged and inspired to realize your true beauty. You are loved!

“Where did that roll come from? I wish I was skinnier.”

“How can my husband look at me? I’m a mess.”

“Why can’t I just look like her?”

“I’m too short. No one will ever take me seriously.”

“My hips are too wide.”

“I can’t believe I hit over 100 lbs. It’s all downhill from here.” {I’m ridiculous, I know}

“My hair is too thin and not shiny enough.”

“My eyes are too dark.”

“I wish my face was clearer and my legs more tan.”

“My face is too fat.”

These are the words I too often speak about myself. I am my own worst critic and everything I do just isn’t good enough. Can you relate? But girlfriend, do you ever stop to think that what you’re thinking isn’t what God has intended for you to think? Who am I to do speak these things about myself? I didn’t create myself. The perfect and amazing Creator of the Universe who is beyond perfect in all He does made me because He delighted in me and wanted to create a life out of me. God made me perfectly in His image. Why am I so focus on the outside when God has already made me beautiful? Why do I focus so much on the physical and not the spiritual state of myself? This world, the same world that is here today and gone tomorrow, is so fixated on how people look on the outside. We are slaves to their fake airbrushed pictures. We thrive off their acceptance and break under the pressure of their worthless opinions. Their focus is shallow and solely based on appearance. How pointless is that? I don’t want to be that way. It’s time that we break away from this world’s definition of beauty and truth.

I am a daughter of the Heavenly King. I am royalty. I am loved and pursued. I am more than just a face; I have a purpose. I don’t want my friends or sisters or even future daughters to obsess over how they look on the outside. As long as they are pursuing a healthy lifestyle, that’s what matters. I could complain about the little things that I don’t like about myself but what good would that do? Not one thing.

When I look in the mirror, I see so many things that I am thankful for.

I am thankful to have legs, strong and able to get me places.

I have arms that can swing around my husband’s neck when he comes home from work. I am thankful for that.

My many freckles on my nose and arms remind me that I am my mother’s daughter and that is definitely something to be thankful for.

My body that I find flawed is loved by my husband and he tells me multiple times a day how beautiful and perfectly made I am. I am thankful for the way he sees me. He sees me as the most beautiful woman in the world and that’s all that matters.

I am thankful for my long brown hair that matches my father’s.

I am thankful for my unique green eyes with specks of brown in them lined with blue which matches perfectly with my husband’s bright brown eyes mixed with green. I hope our future kids have those eyes that see life as a gift and an adventure and nothing less than God-given.

I have a heart as big as the ocean. It loves many people, both near and far.

I have a Spirit in me that is not of this world. His name is Jesus and He makes me who I am. My figure or my looks do not give me worth and identity. My life isn’t about me and when I look in the mirror, I see a woman who was once broken until Jesus came and made me beautiful and new. His Spirit makes me alive, new, and beautiful.

This world’s definition of beauty is a lie. Beloved, you don’t have to be stick-thin. It’s okay if your teeth are a little crooked or your hair too messy. You are beautiful with your curves and your pale or dark skin. Your nose and your eyes were perfectly placed and your ears shaped by the loving Creator. Real, true, eternal, God-made beauty comes from God Himself and it has a name… Jesus.

and Jesus is within me, in my heart and in my Spirit. That’s what makes me beautiful. I am His.

This picture below is me. I’m going on two days of no showering due to having too much fun at the lake and I am in my husband’s old t-shirt. My eyebrows never look the same {for some odd reason}. My eyelashes aren’t spider-long. You will find no trace of makeup here and my face isn’t flawless. I have bags under my eyes and lines are already showing around my smile at 21. But those are simply proof of lifeAnd on the inside, I am spotless because of Jesus. I am loved by an eternal God. No matter what I am wearing on my body, I can have confidence that I am clothed in Christ’s righteousness. I am worthy. I am beautiful.

Processed with VSCOcam with b5 preset

What do you see when you truly look at yourself? You are beautiful. You are loved. You are cherished. Every hair on your head and every freckle on your body. And your heart, that is worth more than gold. And that is the truth.

-Katie

After reading this amazing post by a fellow blogger, I was moved to tears and knew I had to share my own story. Thanks, Rachel, for your encouragement and inspiration!

“Come set our hearts ablaze with hope
Like wildfire in our very souls
Holy Spirit come invade us now
We are Your Church
We need Your Power
In us”

Rend Collective Experiment

————————————————————–

Father, Son, Holy Spirit. I talk to God on a daily basis. He is my father and my strength. I thank Jesus for being my friend and savior. But rarely do I ask the Holy Spirit for help. Which is odd because the three make up the mysterious majesty of God, the Trinity.

Why do we talk about the Holy Spirit like he is an “it”? He is God, just like the father and the son. He is God’s Spirit in us. He came into our hearts, made us alive, revived us, when we accepted Him as Savior and our whole life. Yet, I rarely ever ask Him for help specifically. Of course, God is beyond us and this isn’t me trying to explain to you this phenomenon that is the Trinity. I believe and I have faith. But I admit that it’s hard for me to think of the Holy Spirit for who He is. Since Jesus isn’t on earth anymore, He is inside of us in our souls! Holy Spirit. An amazing supernatural experience. We are more than our earthly shell, beloved.

I was flipping to Psalms this morning and came across a diagram if you will of truths specifically about the Holy Spirit. I knew I had to share it with you all! It blessed me so much and I hope it will bless you as well! It opened my eyes to the weight of glory in the Trinity. I am so thankful that God loves us so much so that He sent His Spirit to dwell in us, His redeemed & born again children who believe in Him.

Our First Year of Marriage

IMG_2922

On July 20th, 2013, I stood outside dressed in ivory and promised my heart and life to my tall and handsome best friend in a coral tie who just so happened to be the man that God created just for me. The words we spoke, straight from our hearts, tied our lives together.

“I do!”

1382378_1418568008360322_618188072_n

That was exactly a year ago! The tall & handsome fella in the cream-colored suit who carried me down the aisle is the same strong man who has carried me through sleepless nights, lots of tears, laughing fits, & everything in between. He has been faithful, bold, strong, caring, trustworthy, warm, & gracious. He has been the one I run to when I mess up or get my feelings hurt. He is the one who deals with my mood swings & random crying spells. He is my encourager, my best friend, & my biggest fan. He prays for me daily and I lift him up to our Lord every morning and every night.

20131115-101347.jpg 20131114-132729.jpg 20130807-182627.jpg

He is the one who makes me frustrated, cry, or laugh until I pee in my pants. He gives me butterflies in my stomach every single time he looks me in the eye. {no joke} I have never gotten tired of having him around. His laugh and sense of humor are both contagious. He gets mad at me when I feel like getting under his skin. He is smart and wise and way better at sports than I am. He supports me in my dreams and provides for my every need, working hard, and will walk around the mall with me and buy every coral dress we spot.

He leaves the toilet seat up and in the middle of the night, I fall in the toilet. I forget to dry his work shirts and he ends up wearing a wrinkled and wet button up.

IMG_0609 20140226-200144.jpg 20131115-214141.jpg

In life, We walk together. Some days, he is holding me. Some days, I am pulling him. And some days, we are both too weak to keep going but we do. Our God is in the middle of us.

998979_1410512782499178_680473189_n

My husband is on my side but some days aren’t picture perfect. We are two sinful humans in one home trying to keep from messing up too much. We dream together and sometimes we have to speak reality to one another.
I hurt him and he hurts me. My feelings get crushed over words he speaks and he feels unloved when I choose selfishness. I get way too sassy with him and he gets a little too real with me.

We read our bible together and ask the hard questions. We encourage each other to seek the face of The Lord. We pray and we intercede. We praise and we dance together. We serve in church side by side and he fills in the gaps that I miss. We push each other. We strive to serve God wholeheartedly. Sometimes we forget to read our Bible and sometimes we doubt God’s perfect plan. We ask for forgiveness & do it all over again.

IMG_9068

We fight temptation. We mess up. We pray over each other. He speaks healing and blessings over me. I ask for strength and wisdom over his heart.

This is marriage. This is love. This is life. Joe and Katie. Husband and wife.

And we will do these things and more, each day for the rest of our lives on earth until we finally get Home. And even then, we will meet on our stars and sing praises to the King of Kings who saw it fitting to place two of His children together on earth.

Happy one year, babe! I love you, Joey Donut!
